Internet Competency
I searched on Google using the term Texas school libraries and found the website for the Texas Association of School Librarians, which is a division of the Texas Library Association.
Upon visiting the site, I found several links to useful information for school librarians plus local conferences to be attended. Texas is divided up into districts, so each district has its own conference.
I found this to be a practical site for a school librarian in that the association provides networking and training for members along with the much-needed advocacy.

Social Networking- MySpace
I found this site under MySpace. I'm still not competent in that area even though when I went to MySpace I saw that my daughter had her own email listed on it!
This group based out of Fort Worth/Dallas is an online book club for people who just like to read.
Even though my blog site is based on school librarians, I like to read and am willing to bet that most librarians like to also.

Multimedia Competency

My blog site topic is how librarians can help teachers and how to increase students' reading.
I found a flow chart created by the librarian for her junior high school in New Jersey. This would be a nice visual for students to refer to when they are in the library for research.

One Last Search
Creating a citation pearl from the ASP hit on improving student literacy, I used the terms "literacy", "motivation", and "reading". WorldCat on TWU's database returned 115 hits. I limited the search to the years 2000-2007. The first two looked promising:
Engaging young readers : promoting achievement and motivation / Author: Baker, Linda.; Dreher, Mariam Jean. Publication: New York : Guilford Press, 2000
Document: English : Book Internet Resource Libraries Worldwide: 681 TEXAS WOMAN'S UNIV LIBR

Specific Facet First
Searching again, this time in ASP in the TWU database. Using the exact phrase, "improving student literacy" resulted in one hit again. Still, it looks like a good one.

Successive Fraction
Continuing with my search on how to improve students' literacy by using the school library, I entered the database of Library Lit on the Texas Women's University website.
I limited my search to s1 student reading achievement AND s2 assessment and narrowed the search down to the years between 2000 and 2007. Surprisingly, the search gave exactly 1 hit, but it seems to be a good one and right on the topic. It is posted below:
